Shadow Royals: Prince of Darkness

“What makes someone evil? Is it murder of another? Sin? If that is your definition of evil, then I am as evil as everyone says I am.”

They were never supposed to be real.

They were fantasies, tales, parents spun in the night to warn off their children. Be wary of the darkness. Run when the shadows move and twist into being. Never ever make a deal with a Shadow for they’d harness your soul, manipulate your flesh and bone to enact sin upon the very soil we walked and the world they dare not seek in the sun.

So why did one save me?

It was just another secret he kept close to his cold, apathetic heart—another close-knit lie of omission. I couldn’t trust him—not a Shadow of all things. Yet, he wasn't what the stories foretold or what I expected.

Unlike any other, he didn’t disappear when the sun yawned and peeked beyond the horizon.

My Kingdom is on the brink of ruin—a prophecy of a weapon coming to light that would destroy the Shadows. A vision of death.

There is no boundary, no line gone too far, to protect my home. I will yield death with an iron blade, taking anyone and anything into dismal oblivion, drawing blood and seeking chaos where I may.

Then I came across her—a mortal, a human girl—amongst a forest shadowed in blood. A huntress amongst beasts. I never suspected my power to rise and yet it lured me to her, a moth to a flame.

To my home’s savior and my greatest peril.

A Royal was never to love, never to feel, so why was this mortal tearing me apart?
